About
So I'm supposed to write a little bit about myself here, which is not an easy thing, but here goes.
The boring stuff:
My birthname is Jakob Torp Svendsen, and at this time of writing I'm 27 years of age. I was brought up and live in Denmark, a small country in Scandinavia.
A little history:
I have never thought I was going to work with computers, coding weird stuff for the web and all that, even though I've spent a lot of my time with computers. Though most of my time spent on it was used for fun, games and the occasional schoolwork. I've always been good at math and science, and a few years back I decided to start studying chemistry thinking I was going to be a scientist or something.
A lot of different events triggered me moving away from Copenhagen and the university, and I took a break from my studies. During that time, a good friend of mine, Mikkel Høgh started his own IT company, and I got the chance to start working with him.
Present time:
It's been about a year since I started learning python reading, "How to think like a computer scientist", and a lot of happened since then. I've not only learned Python, Django, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, Drupal, SQL, HTML, CSS and how to put it all together, but I also had to learn stuff like the UNIX command line, VCS like git. I am not in any way an expert in these tools... yet, but I have come very far in this short time. I enjoy how making websites and web apps, forces you to constantly learn new things and push your own limits.
I still work in Mikkel's company: Reveal IT, and is fortunate to also be able to spend some of my time on Open Source projects. One of our very old projects, the very thing I developed on learning Python and Django is Djime a timetracker webapp. A lot has happened to it since then, and we are currently working on what we call Pine, Djime integrated into Pinax. Unfortunately, we don't really have time to work on it a lot of the time, as we also have clients with visions and dream that we constantly are trying to fulfill, using either Drupal or Django as the tool.
